Early Years has a new curriculum this year and the guidance can be found at https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/early-years-foundation-stage-framework--2 , alongside the supporting document 'Development Matters'. This will give you an idea of the types of mile stones that children are expected to meet at different ages and why learn through play-based activities in the first year of school, in preparation for Year One.
Alongside the Early Years Curriculum, our Year 1 children will also be taught the knowledge and skills needed in the Primary National Curriculum.
Maths and Science will both be taught as a year group for Year 1 pupils.
Summer 2 Topic - Superheroes and Supervegetables
This half term, we will be learning all about growing - our bodies, healthy foods, plants and vegetables. Our role play will be a grocery store and a garden centre (any unwanted donations for either of these areas are always welcome). We will also be learning about Christianity and the importance of baptism to Christians. In Year 1 Science, we will continue learning all about plants including learning to identify and name some. Our Year Ones will be learning about weather patterns as part of our Geography topic this half term. |
|
The stimulus text for this half term is Supertato and we will focus a lot of our work on what makes a superhero. |

PE
Our PE this half term will take place on Wednesdays (indoor) and Thursdays (outdoor) and children should come into school in their P.E. kit on these days. Year 1 will do their outdoor P.E. session with Cherry Class.
At Westfield, we expect all children to complete five reading sessions a week. These should be recorded in each child’s individual planner, along with any other messages for school staff. These will be checked every day by an adult. All children will bring home a 'Reading for Pleasure' book to share together at home and many will now also be bringing home Read Write Inc books or Ditty Sheets as well. Please ask if you have any questions
Homework
As well as reading every night, children will receive phonics homework on a Friday and should practice their number skills using Numbots
