Willow Class Summer 1

Welcome back to a new half term. We hope you all had a restful Easter break!

We have some exciting things ready for you to learn!

We are really lucky in Willow class to have lots of adults to care for us and help us to learn.

Pathways to Write

This half term our Pathways book is Toys in space. Miss Woods found a box of toy's with labels attached. We found out it was a box of lost property. We had to read the labels to find out where each toy had been found. This half term we will be writing our own labels and a short story.

PE

Our PE day is Thursday. Due to our current provision in school, please ensure that your child comes into school dressed in their PE kit. We do PE outside so it is really important that your child is dressed appropriately for the weather.

Reading.

At Westfield, we expect all children to complete five reading sessions a week at home. These should be recorded in your child's reading diary so we know that they have read. Your child will receive dojo's each time they complete a reading session at home. At school we teach the children to read high frequency words. We have given you a set of these words to consolidate learning at home.

Please ensure your child has their reading diary in school each day.

Maths

In Maths we are recapping number bonds to 10 and focussing on problems involving numbers 11-20.

History.

In History we are finding out about the toys that our Grandparents played with. We will be looking at similarities and differences between electronic toys and toys in the past. We will be asking our Grandparents questions about their toys. I wonder which toys they think are best. if any of our Grandparents still have any of their toys we would love to see them.

Art

Our artist this half term is Andy Warhol. We will be finding out about his life, looking at his style and learning printing techniques. Andy Warhol creates wonderful Pop Art and includes lots of bright colours in his work.

Science.

In Science we will be looking at plants including trees. We will name their features and understand the function of each part. We are incredibly lucky at Westfield to have such beautiful grounds to complete our Science investigations in.

Online Learning.

Our children have access to a range of online resources to aid their learning. Here are the links to some useful websites that the children can use. Your child's passwords for the sites are stuck into their reading diary. If you need any support please ask a member of the EYFS Team.

Covid-19 Bubble Closure

In the event of our bubble having to close, Miss Carney will provide remote learning through Google Classroom. Every child has been given their own Gmail address. They are able to log onto our online classroom using these details.

It is a requirement that children access our remote learning platform on the days that they would usually attend school. It is important that good communication between school and parents/carers maintains during a bubble closure.

If you have any questions, please contact the school office.

Alternatively, you can contact Miss Carney directly via her school email -misscarney@westfieldprimaryschool.com

Thankyou for your continued support.
