Autumn 2
How can we learn from our mistakes?
For this half term, our focus text will be The Great Fire of London. We will be learning about how to improve our sentence writing, spelling and handwriting, leading to a final write up of an information text at the end of the half term. This feeds nicely into our History topic, also with a focus on The Great Fire of London, learning about the causes, consequences and effects.
In Maths, we will continue to improve our mental maths skills, using Times Tables Rockstars and Numbots to help with this. We will also be learning about Mass, temperature and data - picture graphs.
Our Science topic will be on the uses of everyday materials, linking back to The Great Fire of London and how the buildings were made in the past and present.
PE
Our PE day is on a Friday and we also have access to the school forest on this day. Due to our current provision in school, please ensure that your child comes into school dressed in their PE/outdoor kit. We encourage children to dress appropriately for the weather, especially in the coming colder months. Also, as we still venture outside in the rain for our forest session, please think about suitable footwear and waterproofs.
Reading
At Westfield, we expect all children to complete five reading sessions a week. These should be recorded in each child’s individual reading diary. Pupils' diaries are checked every morning by an adult from Cherry Class and their school books are changed on a Tuesday and Thursday.
Spelling
Every Monday, a set of spellings will be given to the children to learn. These spellings will be introduced to the children through a discreetly taught spelling session. Children will be tested on these spellings on a Friday.
Online Learning Resources
Our children have access to a range of online resources to aid their learning. Here are the links to some useful websites that children can also access at home. All children are familiar with how to use these and their usernames and passwords can be found in their reading diaries. Please ask if you have any questions about these.

In the event of a Covid-19 Bubble Closure
In the event of our bubble having to close, the children will be provided with remote learning via Google Classroom, which can be accessed through most electronic devices via the website or the app. Every child has been given their own Gmail address. They are able to log onto our online classroom using these details.
It is a national government requirement that children access our remote learning platform on the days that they would usually attend school, if their bubble is to close due to Coronavirus. It is important that good communication between school and parents/carers maintains during a bubble closure. We ask that all children respond to the daily task briefing on their Google Classroom homepage.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
