Year 4 - Larch Class 2020 - 2021
Mrs Havard
Mrs Thomson
Welcome to Larch Class. We are a class of Year 4 pupils who work with Mrs Havard and Mrs Thomson to learn everything we can at Westfield! |
||
We also have two other adults who work with us on a regular basis. Mrs Watson is our Midday Assistant and Mr Steen takes our class for two days every other week. |
Autumn 2 topics - Where should we travel to next?
This half term we will be reading the beautiful book 'Leon and the Place Between' by Grahame Baker-Smith during our English lessons and 'The Train to Impossible Places' by P.G. Bell as our accompanying class story. We will also be looking at some of the poetry of Roger McGough.
We will complete our work learning about Ancient Greece as well as learning about the geography of the U.K.
Please see the link below for the full curriculum for the year.
PE
Our PE days are Thursday and Friday. Due to our current provision in school, please ensure that your child comes into school dressed in their PE kit. We encourage children to dress appropriately for the weather.
Reading
At Westfield, we expect all children to complete five reading sessions a week. These should be recorded in each child’s individual reading diary. Pupils' diaries are checked every morning by an adult from Larch Class.
Spelling
Every Monday, children will have a spelling session where the week's spellings will be introduced. Children will be tested on these spellings on a Friday. Every child has a spelling map for each half term so that they can familiarise themselves with the planned learning. In addition, we also have a list of key words which we will learn across the half term. Our Autumn 2 spelling map can be found on this page.
Online Learning Resources
Our children have access to a range of online resources to aid their learning. Here are the links to some useful websites that children can use whilst not in school. All children are familiar with how to use these and their usernames and passwords can be found in their reading diaries. Please ask if you have any questions about these.

In the event of a Covid-19 Bubble Closure
In the event of our bubble having to close, the children will be provided with remote learning via Google Classroom which can be accessed through most electronic devices via the website or the app. Every child has been given their own Gmail address. They are able to log onto our online classroom using these details.
It is a national government requirement that children access our remote learning platform on the days that they would usually attend school, if their bubble is to close due to Coronavirus. It is important that good communication between school and parents/carers maintains during a bubble closure. We ask that all children respond to the daily task briefing on their Google Classroom homepage.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office or myself at mrshavard@westfieldprimaryschool.com or via a private message on Google Classroom.
