Year 6 - Oak Class 2021 - 2022
Do we always get what we give?
This half term, we will be reading the book 'The Selfish Giant' by Oscar Wilde. This will help us improve our story writing skills. This book is about a very selfish Giant who does not want to share his beautiful garden with a group of children-the most interesting thing about this, is that it was written over 100 years ago! We will also be continuing our science them of the circulatory system, and learning about the Maya civilisation in our history.
In our art, we will be looking at the topic of 'Make our voice heard', which is showing our art in unique way.s. PE this half term will be working on our leadership skills-very important as we prepare ourselves for high school.
Finally, we will start our preparation for SATs.
To help prepare for SATs, there will be a free after school booster session from 3:20-4:00. Your child will be invited to either a Tuesday or a Thursday slot. This will run until SATs in May.
Every Tuesday, spellings will be given to the children to learn. These spellings will be introduced to the children through a discreetly taught spelling session. Children will be tested on these spellings on a Friday.
Our Oak Class Family
We are really lucky to have lots of people that help us in Oak Class.
Here are our key adults:
- Mr Parker – Class Teacher
- Miss McGreal– Teaching Assistant
At Westfield, we expect all children to complete five reading sessions a week. These should be recorded in each child’s individual reading diary and signed by an adult or older sibling. Pupils' diaries are checked every morning by Mr Parker. Rewards are given to those who read at home.
Online Learning Resources
Our children have access to a range of online resources to aid their learning. Here are the links to some useful websites that children can use whilst not in school. All children are familiar with how to use these.
Spelling Shed: https://www.spellingshed.com/en-gb/
Purple Mash: https://www.purplemash.com/sch/westfieldwa7
In the event of a child having to isolate, remote learning will be provided through Google Classroom. Every child has been given their own Gmail address. They are able to log onto our online classroom using these details.
It is a requirement that children access our remote learning platform on the days that they would usually attend school. It is important that good communication between school and parents/carers maintains during an isolation period. We ask that all children respond to the daily task briefing on their Google Classroom homepage. This is so that the class teacher can record who has been able to engage with the learning tasks.
If you have any questions, please contact the school office.
