Year 5 Swimming

As part of the National Curriculum it is a statutory requirement that children in school go swimming.  Children are unable to ‘opt out’ of swimming lessons for any other reason other than medical, when a doctor’s note is required.  If there are any specific issues why your child will not be swimming, please contact the school immediately.

The safety of pupils and staff remains our top priority. You can be assured that Government, leisure industry, and sports-specific guidance is being followed. The Active Halton School Swimming Programme has been developed in line with the comprehensive Return to Pools Guidance published by Swim England, with specific reference to the ‘Returning to the Pool: Guidance for School Swimming’ document.

The children are taught to swim by two qualified swimming instructor and supervised by school staff.  Please complete the consent form in the parent’s area of the school spider app before Friday 19^th March 2021.  Lessons will commence on Wednesday 24^th March 2021 at Brookvale Leisure Centre.   The last lesson will be on Wednesday 26^th May 2021.  Please ensure that your child brings the correct swimming kit each Wednesday.

• One piece swimming costume/swimming trunks (must be above the knee)
• Towel
• Bag
• Googles (optional)
• If your child has an inhaler for asthma, please ensure that they take it to the swimming baths. 

Children must not bring talcum powder, shampoo or conditioner.  Earrings must not be worn.  Children wearing earrings will not be allowed to swim by the authority/swimming service.  Children must remove their own earrings as staff are not allowed to do so.  School is not responsible for earrings taken out during the school day.  Long hair must be tied back.

We are asking that parents make a £2 voluntary contribution each week towards the cost of the coach to take the children to Brookvale Leisure Centres £16 in total for 8 lessons.  This can be made through ParentPay.
