Good morning Oak Class!

I hope you all had a lovely day yesterday. I have got a ‘to do’ list that is as long as my arm to complete today, so it’s going to be a busy one for me. What does everyone else have planned?

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Yesterday, you read the start of chapter four, The Keeper of Keys. For today’s writing task, I would like you to write a setting description based on where the Dursleys are staying when Hagrid turns up unannounced. As I mentioned in our blog comments yesterday, this is one of my favourite parts in the film. It’s a very dramatic moment and the family are staying in the most unusual place.

When describing the setting, think about the following aspects to describe:

  • The stormy weather
  • The location of the building
  • Outside appearance of the building – What is it built upon?
  • Inside the building – lack of lighting, furniture, dust etc
  • The atmosphere

Watch this particular clip from the movie. Consider how it is described in the book and how it is depicted in the film. Is there a difference between the two?

I can’t wait to read your descriptions! I have set it as a ‘to do’ on Purple Mash today so that I am able to give you feedback on your writing. Please endeavour to complete it on this platform if you are able to do so.

If you need me, please comment on our blog post or ask an adult to email me.

Missing you all!
