Pathways Autumn 1
Our pathways this half term is the book 'Star of fear, Star of hope' which is about Nazi Occupied France, and their hunt for Jews. It tells the heartbreaking story of a friendship that ends suddenly due to one of the girls disappearing. The children will learn how to write expanded noun phrases, and learn more about the passive voice.
What are we learning in Autumn 1?
Science is all about Life cycles!
History is learning about the census and how it is used today.
RE is about making the right moral choices.
Music is learning about the musical genre, 'The Blues'
PE
For this half term, Y5/6 will have swimming on Tuesday, and Y5 and Y6 will have PE on a Tuesday.
Spelling
Children will be taught spellings in school, with a focus on applying the rule that is being taught that week.
Sacred Story
Each day, we take time to share a story read aloud in class — a moment we call Sacred Story. This is a cherished part of our day, when we pause, listen, and lose ourselves in the magic of a great book together. Hearing stories read aloud is not only a joyful experience but also a powerful way to develop language, imagination, empathy, and a love of reading. It helps us connect — with the story, with each other, and with the wider world of books.
Take a look at the wonderful stories we’ll be enjoying during Sacred Story this year - this can be found in the files list below.
Online Learning Resources
Our children have access to a range of online resources to aid their learning. Here are the links to some useful websites that children can use whilst not in school, their usernames and passwords can be found in their School Planner. All children are familiar with how to use these. Clicking on each name will take you to the website.
