Willow Class Home Learning - Wednesday 25/03/2020

Date: 24th Mar 2020 @ 10:00pm

Hello,

I have really enjoyed seeing all of the activities that a lot of you have been up to so far this week.  As some have already done, feel free to email me any photographs of your work or activities at mrsmcilroy@westfieldprimaryschool.com.

For your writing task today, I would like for you to read the poem 'We Can' from the poetry book 'A Great Big Cuddle', written by Michael Rosen.  If you search for this online, there is a video of Michael Rosen reading the poem - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oTHUIDJqAL0

The poem is written in the style of using questions, repetition and verbs.  I have written an example of a version of this poem style, using animals found in our class book - The Curious Case of the Missing Mammoth:

Can you do what a butterfly does? Flap, flap, flap and flutter, flutter, flutter

Can you do what a dodo does? Peck, peck, peck and jump, jump, jump

What does a panda do? Munch, munch, munch and yawn, yawn, yawn

What does a golden toad do? Croak, croak, croak and leap, leap, leap

Can you now write your own verse using animals from our book and thinking about what they can do.  (gorilla, dinosaur, hummingbird, mammoth, blue whale, turtle, octopus, fish, flamingo, polar bear, penguin)  Practise reading these aloud to someone in your house.

For reception children, feel free to have a go at this task together but I would like for you to draw a picture of the museum from the story and design your own room within the museum.  Feel free to use the rooms from our book for ideas (Underwater Worlds, Library, The Flight Floor, The Time of the Dinosaurs) or create your own room based on what you might see in a museum.  As a challenge, can you add a sentence to tell me what Teddy (baby mammoth) has been up to in that room?

Enjoy your task! Remember to comment on here or email me with any questions.

Mrs McIlroy
