My name is not refugee.JPG

English

Our focus text for Pathways to Write will be My Name Is Not Refugee. Y1 chidlren will be adding ing to verbs where no change to the root word is needed, using and to join words and phrases and also maintaining the use of capital letters and full stops correctly. Y2 children will be using subordination (when, so that) using past progressive verbs (was marching, was running) and expanding their us eof different punctuation with the use of apostrophes for possession (Farid's bag, mum's hand).

Many of our chidlren will be accessing Read Write Inc Phonics sessions, developing their phonics knowledge further to decode words and increase fluency within their stoorybooks. Some of our children will be in Pathways to Read sessions and our book focus is Owen and The Soldier where we will be developing our inference skills.

Maths
We follow ‘Oak Academy Maths’ daily and continue to become super mathematicians.

We also have maths fluency sessions 4 afternoons per week. We follow the NCETM Mastering Number programme for this.

We love Numbots! We have daily practise on Numbots on the class ipads and we hope that the children continue this at home. We give out certificates for different levels achieved fortnightly in our Friday celebration assembly.

Science
Year 1 and 2 will be learning about Uses Of Everyday Materials. We will recap prior learning on the names of different materials of objects all around us (wood, plastic, glass, metal, water and rock), how materials can be described (rough, smooth, waterproof, absorbent, transparent, opaque etc) We will explore why certain materials are suited to their uses and how the shape of some solid objects can be changed by force (push, pull, bend, twist, stretch).

Wider Curriculum

Our Design Technology topic is Cooking- Food and Nutrition. The chidlren will elarn all about balanced meals and preprare their own wraps after sampling different ingredients.

In Geography the children will explore the question 'Would you prefer to live in a hot or cold place?'.

Computing will be a unit on 'pictograms'.

Music will be learnig about 'musical me'.

RE we will discuss the question 'How might beliefs about creation effect how people treat the world?'

PE

PE is on Thursday and Friday. Please come to school dressed in full PE kit on these days. Thurday will be cricket with external Cheshire CC coaches. Friday will be a focus on fundamental movement skills.

Reading

At Westfield, we encourage all children to complete five reading sessions a week. These should be recorded on each child’s individual reading account on the Boom Reader app. The children are split into different Read Write Inc. Phonics groups whilst in school and will have a separate book focus for that week  and will be sent home in their book bags each week. Their books need to go home every night and come back to school every morning. We encourage all of our children to read five times per week. We also have a library where children are encouraged to take home a library book that interests them, to share with an adult at home. this is a 'reading for pleasure' book.

Online Learning Resources

Our children have access to a range of online resources to aid their learning. Here are the links to some useful websites that children can use whilst not in school, their usernames and passwords can be found on their bookmark  All children are familiar with how to use these.
