Oak Class Home Learning 27.03.2020

Date: 27th Mar 2020 @ 8:30am

Good morning Oak Class!

Well, we did it! It's Friday and that marks the end of our first week of home learning. How have you all found it?

I've really enjoyed posting on this daily blog - it's been a really nice way to keep in touch with you all. Next week, we are going to alter the way we set the home learning work. Later on today, I will send out the weekly learning grid and that will contain some wider curriculum learning ideas but it will also have some maths suggestions on it. I will no longer be posting a daily maths activity for you to complete on this blog.

Pick and choose from the weekly grid and complete it at your own pace (all classes will be doing this). We want to alleviate any pressure from you all whilst you are at home - use this time to consolidate what we have already learnt and find little bursts of happiness in anything that you can. PLAYING is learning. MAKING is learning. DOING is learning. So feel free to email me next week with any photos that show examples of playing, making or doing.

I will still post a daily writing activity as I think it's important that we practise our writing skills daily. This, however, may not be topic linked but more relevant to what we are experiencing right now.

So, on to today...

English

I can write a letter in role as Fred

Continuing on from yesterday's task, now that you have your very own Amazon tree house, write to a loved one back home to tell them all about your new home. Write in role as Fred and think about how he may want to reassure his family back in the UK and let them know that he is safe after the crash.

Consider the following in each paragraph:

Paragraph 1 - Explain why you are writing to the recipient and let them know you are safe.

Paragraph 2 - Tell them about some friends you have made and what the Amazon rainforest is like.

Paragraph 3 - Describe your new home (the tree house) and how you built it.

Paragraph 4 - Let them know how you are surviving. You could outline a typical daily routine.

Conclusion - Conclude your letter and sign off.

Remember to set your work out appropriately (address at the top right hand corner).

I look forward to reading them!

Maths

I want times tables to be a big focus for you whilst you are at home. Spend today learning some key facts that you know you are not secure on e.g. if you know you aren't confident with your 8 x tables, then learn those!

Once you have done that, you can complete one of the following tasks:

  • Workbook revision from your SATs books
  • Education City multiplication activity
  • Times tables game on Purple Mash (I will put this in your 'To Do' section)

I hope you have a lovely day! Please remember that I am incredibly proud of you all. If you don't get all of your tasks done at home, don't worry. There's always tomorrow. School will still be here when the lockdown ends and so will I.

Missing you as always.
