Oak Class Home Learning and Weekly Learning Grid 01.06.2020

Date: 1st Jun 2020 @ 7:17am

Good morning Oak Class!

Happy 1st of June! I love the month of June, don’t ask me why as I have no particular reason. Fun fact -  the 26th of June is my favourite date in the whole year. Again, I have no particular reason for this, but when I was little, I used to imagine getting married on that date, so maybe that’s why?

I hope you all had a lovely and restful half term break. The weather was glorious whilst we were all off – I hope you were all able to make the most of it.

We are now about to start Summer 2! I can’t believe that we are at this point in the year already. It has flown by! To my Y6 children, I can’t believe that this is your final half term at Westfield.

This week, we will continue with Harry Potter, but next week, we will be turning our attention to a new learning focus – all of which will become clear next week. Our weekly learning grid can be found via the ‘School Spider’ app or on our class web page.

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Chapter Five – The journey from platform nine and three - quarters

Please read the extract which I have posted in a separate blog.

Once you have done this, answer the following comprehension questions in your home learning books.

  • What does ‘barking’ mean?
  • Find a phrase that shows Harry is nervous.
  • What words and phrases show you Harry was dubious about getting onto the platform?
  • On what day did Harry speak to his aunt and uncle about going to King’s Cross station?
  • How was Harry’s last month with the Dursleys different?
  • Why is Vernon smiling before he leaves?
  • What did Harry name his owl?
  • From where does Harry’s train depart?
  • Consider the character of Harry Potter at the beginning of the book (before he found out he was a wizard) and how he is now. Do you think his character has changed? Give two examples of this and support with evidence.

I hope you all have a lovely day everyone! If you need me, please contact me via our blog. Alternatively, ask an adult to email me.

I am missing you all dearly! I hope you are all keeping safe and remaining positive. I know the next few weeks brings a lot of uncertainty for many of you, but always remember, you’ve got this!

Love,

Mrs Davies
