Oak Class Home Learning and Weekly Learning Grid 18.05.2020

Date: 18th May 2020 @ 7:33am

Good morning Oak Class!

I hope you all had a fabulous weekend. On Saturday, I went to see my friend’s new baby (whilst stood at the end of her driveway of course) and that was really special. It’s nice to know that there is still lots of lovely news happening during the lockdown. Has anyone got any news they would like to share with the class?

Our new weekly learning grid is now available via the ‘School Spider’ app or via our website.

Times Tables Rock Stars

Well done to all of you that have logged on so far. Now that you’ve had the opportunity to explore the site, I will set you a task. Only I can see your names and scores, to everyone else, you just appear as your music artist name. I’m Jazzy Santos! If you need your login details, then please ask an adult to email me.

Bug Club

I will be checking to see who has logged onto Bug Club to read this week. If you are finding home learning a bit tricky, then please endeavour to at least read every day. I can track your comprehension via Bug Club and feedback and support where needed. If you have been reading some books at home, then mention them on our class blog! I have been able to read for pleasure recently and it’s honestly one of my favourite past times!

Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

We will continue with this book until the end of the week. Friday will mark the end of the half term, so there will be no learning blogs next week.

Today, I would like you to read an extract from chapter four, The Keeper of Keys. I have posted this extract in a separate blog post, but if you have your own copy of the text, please feel free to use that.

Please read the extract and answer the following questions. Record your answers in your home learning books. There is no need to write the questions and you do not need to leave a line between each answer.

  • Find and copy words and phrases that describe Hagrid.
  • Why can’t Dudley move?
  • What does the word ‘rasping’ mean?
  • What does Dudley think the noise is?
  • What does Vernon arm himself with?
  • Who is the man?
  • What food does he make for Harry?
  • What does Hagrid reveal to Harry?
  • Why does Uncle Vernon tell Dudley not to touch anything Hagrid gives him?
  • What do you think Harry might be thinking and feeling at this point in the story?

I hope you all have a wonderful day. If you need me, please contact me via the class blog or as an adult to email me.
