September 2020

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am now in a position to update you regarding any changes to staffing and also the plan for classes in September. We are expecting to have all the children back at the beginning of the Autumn term!

Staffing

I am pleased to announce that Mrs Crook is expecting a baby in October and will begin her maternity leave around the end of September.

Mr Buckley and Mr Dawes have left Westfield Primary School and we wish them both the very best for the future.

During lockdown, we appointed 2 class teachers, Miss Carney and Miss Monaghan. We have also appointed Mrs Stokes as a casual cleaner and Miss Howard as a casual Midday Assistant. We welcome all the new staff to our Westfield family.

Classes

In September, I wish to provide the children with the best possible start, especially after this period of change and uncertainty. In order to do this, where possible, the children will continue with the same class teacher in September.

Classes from Year 2 to Year 6 will not be mixed year groups and single year groups only, keeping class sizes small.

Therefore, the class structure will look like this in September.

School Reports

Your child’s school report will be available for collection on Wednesday 15th July, along with a transition pack for September.

The reports will look slightly different this year due to the school closing at the end of March. Teachers have commented on progress, attainment, home learning and the personal attributes of your child.

You will have an opportunity to book a telephone appointment to discuss the report with your child’s teacher. Appointments can be made, via school spider, after the 15th July for the week commencing 20th July.

Curriculum

In September, we will be embracing a few positive changes to the curriculum. For reading, we will be starting Pathways to Read. This compliments our Pathways to Write scheme that we already have in place.

Over the last few months, our teachers have participated in weekly training sessions on a new Maths scheme for the school called Maths No Problem. We will be introducing this in September. The scheme delivers an enquiry-based approach to teaching and learning mathematical concepts, with the use of practical resources to support.

When able to, we will be offering parent/carer workshops on both Pathways to Read and Maths No Problem. Information on both these schemes will also be available on the school website in September.

I hope you can see that, as a school, we are moving forward quickly in terms of providing a high quality provision for your children. As always, I welcome any comments and questions regarding the plans for September.
